Two quick links on Cognitive Load Theory I've been fielding lots of questions lately about Cognitive Load Theory. Here are two quick links that may be useful. First is an article talking about the practical implications of CLT on the design of learning. The second are some "recent" (as of 2003) developments regarding CLT. Happy reading! Update: I clarified the second...

Practical advice on kids and Android app development After hearing about my students' success developing an Android app, I've gotten several emails asking for more details as to how I practically worked with my kids. Podcast Episode 2 – All about WordPress!

Category : Educational Technology, Software

This site is based on wordpress, as evidenced by the footers below. I chose wordpress becuase it offers the highest level of customization and ease of use. Now, I host my blog on my paid-for host, so I have a little more freedom in choosing what I want to see when I type in the URL. You can set up a free blog that in my opinion is far better than other free blog services…ahem..blogger…

Anyhoo, I love google but blogger could be better. That said, I chose wordpress for it’s famous five minute install requiring you to only know your SQL database information and host location. It worked like a charm, and I would highly recommend it.

Once you get wordpress installed, you have a myriad of ways to extend it, through the use of themes and plugins.

So that’s what the show is all about! It’s longer, and I stutter more, but it seemed to work. Thanks for listening!

Great podcast! WordPress is in fact a great choice – one I’d be using if I wasn’t such a cheapskate …

If someone wants the freedom of running their own blog but their web host doesn’t give them MySQL privileges (.mac, etc.), they might want to try Thingamablog. I’ve used it on various projects for several years now, and while it doesn’t do everything WordPress does, it’s a decent cross platform blogging alternative.
