Two quick links on Cognitive Load Theory I've been fielding lots of questions lately about Cognitive Load Theory. Here are two quick links that may be useful. First is an article talking about the practical implications of CLT on the design of learning. The second are some "recent" (as of 2003) developments regarding CLT. Happy reading! Update: I clarified the second...

Practical advice on kids and Android app development After hearing about my students' success developing an Android app, I've gotten several emails asking for more details as to how I practically worked with my kids. Here are some pointers that I offered to the first person that emailed me, perhaps they are of some use to you. Please note that your mileage may vary. It's ok to not be...

Publishing an App Inventor app to the Android Market As I mentioned earlier, my students and I published an Android app to the Android Market. See those links for more information on the background. Kim Cofino has been skype video conferencing with New Zealand. Needless to say, that piqued my interest since I desire to do the same with other classes. Sadly, no one comes calling! :(

Anyway, I was impressed with Kim’s post and it’s worth a read if you’re considering doing this at any point. I think the idea of  a “hot seat” is golden, as well as her idea of moving the video conference away from center as they become more commonplace. Go read her!

Skype, and its plug-in “Talk and Write” have huge potential forthe future. especially broadening students perspective of themselves within the global communityand giving a fresh perspective on collaborative efforts. My class work closely with MrsH also, she is really pushing the envelope for incorporating digital technology into her classroom practise.

We will, we will! 7th grade in Hagerstown.

Thanks Chris! We are having a great time with this project – and I’m so lucky that Chrissy is on this side of the planet because arranging video conferences with classes in the US is getting a bit difficult. We have one coming up where our partner students in TX are all going to meet after school at around 7:30pm just so they can chat with us here in Malaysia at 8:30 am :)

We will, we will – when it’s daylight savings again – the time zone difference is soooooo bad for us and you now!
