Two quick links on Cognitive Load Theory I've been fielding lots of questions lately about Cognitive Load Theory. Here are two quick links that may be useful. First is an article talking about the practical implications of CLT on the design of learning. The second are some "recent" (as of 2003) developments regarding CLT. Happy reading! Update: I clarified the second...

Practical advice on kids and Android app development After hearing about my students' success developing an Android app, I've gotten several emails asking for more details as to how I practically worked with my kids. Here are some pointers that I offered to the first person that emailed me, perhaps they are of some use to you. Please note that your mileage may vary. It's ok to not be...

Publishing an App Inventor app to the Android Market As I mentioned earlier, my students and I published an Android app to the Android Market. See those links for more information on the background. Designing and publishing an Android app with kids This post is designed to provide some context around how/why we decided to build this app. The more technical details of the code and how we published it will come in a future post. Life Round Here Update

Category : General

The project deadline was theoretically October 31. We’re being intentionally loose about folks publishing the stories since this project is much more about student learning than high stakes deadlines.

That said, so far 13 schools have posted six stories. Wow! That’s (doing the math) 78 stories!

Here is a snapshot of the completed projects thus far…

With more on the way, I think!

Another fun something, DK from Mediasnackers contacted me about featuring a story or two from CrossRoads in his latest vodcast. You can find Episode 11 of the ever-wonderful Mediasnackers Vodcast page. Thanks to DK for featuring one of our stories!

Go watch some of the stories, so that you can see the amazing work our kids are doing! Also feel free to spread the word, folks are always looking for examples of real-life student projects, and here are some!

http://chriscraft.pbwiki.com is the main page, and then you can click on completed projects to see the schools that have published.  Good stuff!

It was an absolute delight and pleasure to be invited to take part in this amazing project. Your idea, framework provided and parameters given, were an inspiration to start with and the work produced by all the students blows me away.
Thank you for all the work that you put in setting everything up – it was as smooth as, to take part in Life ‘Round Here!

We (my class) have also enjoyed taking part. It has been interesting to see the different interpretations from students. Judging the six best was really difficult but as a class we used the criteria and then .. Well there they are. My students all learnt heaps while producing their story and even more from watching the ones produced from their classmates. While we haven’t watched all the others (an amazing collection) many students have spent their spare time viewing them.
Thanks for coming up with idea and then managing the whole process.

Thanks for allowing us to feature the film Chris – as the other comments testify, you have started something great here…

Peace

Chris,

Just wanted you to know that it was a pleasure taking part and as Lynne said, you made it very simple. Looking forward to sharing all the stories now.

Take care,
