Two quick links on Cognitive Load Theory I've been fielding lots of questions lately about Cognitive Load Theory. Here are two quick links that may be useful. First is an article talking about the practical implications of CLT on the design of learning. The second are some "recent" (as of 2003) developments regarding CLT. Happy reading! Update: I clarified the second...

Practical advice on kids and Android app development After hearing about my students' success developing an Android app, I've gotten several emails asking for more details as to how I practically worked with my kids. Here are some pointers that I offered to the first person that emailed me, perhaps they are of some use to you. Please note that your mileage may vary. It's ok to not be...

Publishing an App Inventor app to the Android Market As I mentioned earlier, my students and I published an Android app to the Android Market. See those links for more information on the background. Designing and publishing an Android app with kids This post is designed to provide some context around how/why we decided to build this app. The more technical details of the code and how we published it will come in a future post. Still waiting for your XO G1G1 to arrive?

Category : General

I was one of the first people to order an OX when they first went on sale. I ordered it roughly 30 minutes after the site went live.

So where’s my XO? Uh, I mean where’s my five year-old daughter’s learning tool?

I came across a post this morning from OLPC news stating that it doesn’t necessarily matter when you bought it, as folks from week 2 are already getting them. So I’m getting anxious.

That post linked to a discussion board thread saying we should call FedEx to see if a package is en route. I didn’t think it would work, but I gave it a shot. Lo and behold, my her XO is slated to arrive on December 18! Yay!

(pic credit to the guy who got his XO stolen in transit)

We ordered 2, but the first one ordered didn’t come yet. I can’t make heads nor tails out of how to use the thing, though. And there’s no information about that much vaunted Hotspot toss-in.

Don’t count on the OLPC being much of a present for your daughter until you take some real time to figure it out.

[...] 2: Now I understand this comment a bit [...]

I’ve received emnail stating that I wil receive mine prior to 15 January. I was happy to receive this news since I had almost no expectation of delivery save some notion, based on absolutely no thought, of sometime in Spring… like, April or so.

I vaguely recall a link outlining the T-Mobile Hot Spot deal with a list of teh varipus locations via a clickable map of the US. The IO website seems t give extensive and simple directions for gettting the laptop up and running.

today is the 16th, and i ordered on nov 19th!

i read somewhere else that there are still first day orderers that haven’t recieved theirs yet, and that alot of them have been stolen by fedex employees!

Don’t order a laptop from this organization because you will be waiting a long time to receive your laptop. Placing calls to their 800 number or sending emails will not help either because you never receive a response to your email or after waiting for 30 minutes or more, the phone will just disconnect. What kind of organization is that that sends and email after you place your order with anticipated delivery date but then it never shows. No wonder one of the executives on Intel dropped from being on this organization’s Board.
